1. if your advertising isn't working - stop it

Let's start with the simple stuff. If you're running advertising that isn't working, stop it.

You should be running great ads that produce great results, or you should be spending your marketing money elsewhere.

2. test and measure

It's absolutely essential that you test and measure all of your advertising.

If you're going to engage in direct response advertising you obviously need to be able to measure that response. At the very least you need to know how many people responded, how many of them were converted to a sale and what that's worth to you. You then need to compare that figure to the cost of the ad to work out how profitable the ad was, or whether you should stop running it.

3. benefits, benefits, benefits...

One of the principles that should drive all of your marketing is communicating the benefits of your product or service.

Your ad needs to be a personal communication to the individual reading it. And it needs to be relevant to them; addressing their needs, desires and fears; clearly communicating the benefits to them personally of what you are offering.

Apart from mainstream advertising, you should be using a combination of other marketing strategies to grow you business. They include (but are not limited to):

• Internet
• Email marketing
• Direct Sales
• PR
• Strategic Alliances
• A multi level referral system

New York: On May 30, rabid fans finally got another dose of Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda, the foursome synonymous with fashion, cocktails and launching brands into the stratosphere of pop culture iconography. After all, thanks to "Sex and the City," Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo became household names, and Cosmopolitans gained new relevance.

During its six seasons on HBO, the series attracted a cult following among female audiences. Still, there is a group that loves to hate "Sex," as evidenced by this week's cover of Time Out New York. It features the four leading ladies with duct tape covering their mouths and the cover line "No Sex!"
